About Chengkan Village
A village of the Luo clan in a basin ringed by hills beside the Zhongchuan stream, laid out on feng shui principles, with more than 120 Ming and Qing houses along three streets and 99 lanes; 49 of its buildings, including houses, ancestral halls, shops, watchtowers and bridges, are national heritage. Its centrepiece is the Luo Dongshu Ancestral Hall, begun in the Jiajing era and completed in the Wanli era on a plan modelled on a Confucian temple, with the Baolun Pavilion at the rear. Chengkan is a core part of the Ancient Huizhou Culture Tourism Zone.
