About Xiyue Temple
The temple where emperors sacrificed to the god of Mount Hua, the Western Sacred Peak, founded under the Western Han in 134 BC near the mountain and moved to this site in the Eastern Han. Its Ming and Qing buildings stand in a walled compound almost 500 m long with corner towers, where a series of gates and courtyards with a stone archway and stele pavilions lead to the nine-bay Haoling Hall, and it is often called the 'Forbidden City of Shaanxi'.
