About Datong Wanrenkeng Memorial Hall (Huainan Japanese Occupation Sites)

A memorial hall in Huainan's Datong coal-mining district built at the Wanrenkeng ('ten-thousand-person pits'), three trenches on the northern foot of Shungeng Mountain that hold the remains of more than 10,000 miners and resistance fighters who died under the Japanese occupation of the Datong mines. Together with eight nearby sites built in 1938–41, including blockhouses, water dungeons, a miners' temple and the Japanese headquarters and ammunition depot, it was listed as a national heritage site in 2013 and as a national war memorial site in 2014. The memorial site covers about 31,000 m², with some 2,400 m² of exhibition rooms.
