About Shanghai Jewish Refugees Museum

A museum built around the former Ohel Moshe Synagogue, put up by Russian Jews in 1927, that tells the story of the roughly 20,000 Jewish refugees from Nazi Europe who found shelter in Shanghai, most of them confined to a restricted sector in Hongkou from 1943. The restored synagogue and the halls added in a 2020 expansion show documents, photographs, personal belongings and reconstructed scenes, and a name wall lists more than 18,000 refugees.
