About Hengshui Lake
A freshwater lake and wetland reserve on the south side of Hengshui, with about 75 sq km of water plus marsh, mudflats, meadow and woodland; it is described as the second-largest freshwater lake on the North China Plain after Baiyangdian. More than 330 bird species have been recorded, with swans and geese wintering and autumn migration peaking in mid to late November, so it is best known for birdwatching and for cycling round the shore. The developed visitor area is on the north shore, in a former garden-expo park that now holds the Hengshui Ecology Museum.
How to get to Hengshui Lake
The north-shore park, where the museum stands, is about 10 km south of central Hengshui, and the reserve stretches south-west towards Jizhou; the ecology museum is closed on Mondays.
