About Bohai Zhongjing Site (Xigucheng)

Xigucheng is the site of Zhongjing, the 'Middle Capital' of the Bohai kingdom (698–926), a city built around 742 in what is now Helong. The walled city measured about 630 m by 730 m, with a smaller inner city holding palace foundations, and excavations in 2000–2002 confirmed that the ruins are Zhongjing. It forms part of the Bohai Zhongjing national archaeological site park together with the Longtoushan tombs 6 km away.
