About Liuhe Pagoda
The Six Harmonies Pagoda on Yuelun Hill above the Qiantang River, first built in 970 by the Wuyue kingdom to calm the river's tidal bore and long used as a beacon for boats. The present brick core dates from the Southern Song rebuilding of the 1160s and its timber outer eaves from the Qing, so the octagonal tower shows thirteen roofs outside but has seven storeys within, linked by internal stairs to the top.
