About Feilai Feng Grottoes

Hundreds of Buddhist figures carved between the 10th and 14th centuries into the caves and cliffs of Feilai Feng, a limestone hill across a stream from Lingyin Temple. Most date from the Song, and the largest niche shows a laughing Maitreya surrounded by the Eighteen Arhats, while the Yuan carvings made under the Tibetan Buddhist monk Yang Lianzhenjia are counted among the largest surviving groups of Yuan-dynasty sculpture in China.

How to get to Feilai Feng Grottoes

About 3 km west of West Lake at the entrance to the Lingyin scenic area, by bus or taxi; the path to Lingyin Temple runs along the carvings.
