About Wanshou Temple
Founded in 1577 under the Wanli Emperor to store Buddhist scriptures, Wanshou Temple became an imperial temple and was enlarged under the Qing into a complex of temple halls, a travelling palace and gardens. A museum since 1987, it reopened in 2022 after a five-year restoration and in July 2026 was renamed the Wanshou Temple Museum (formerly the Beijing Art Museum), with displays on the temple's history, Buddhist statues, auspicious objects and traditional furniture.
