About Two Rivers and Four Lakes & Elephant Trunk Hill

Central Guilin's ring of waterways, which links the Li and Taohua rivers with Ronghu, Shanhu, Guihu and Mulong lakes and was dredged and joined into one loop around 2001, with lakeside parks, bridges and the Sun and Moon Pagodas on Shanhu Lake. At its southern end Elephant Trunk Hill, the city's emblem, stands where the Taohua River meets the Li, its arch, Water-Moon Cave, making the hill look like an elephant drinking from the river. Boat tours circle the waterways, and the floodlit lakes are a popular evening sight.
