About Jingjiang Princes' Palace & Solitary Beauty Peak

The walled seat of the Ming-dynasty Princes of Jingjiang, begun in 1372 in the heart of Guilin; its stone walls, gates and hall terraces survive, and the grounds now hold a campus of Guangxi Normal University and an exhibition on the imperial examinations once held here. Inside the walls rises Solitary Beauty Peak, climbed by 306 steps for a view over the city, its cliffs carved with inscriptions including the earliest record of the saying that Guilin's scenery is the finest under heaven. The protected site also takes in the princes' tombs, more than 300 burials at the foot of Yao Mountain east of the city, one of them restored as a museum.
