About South China National Botanical Garden
Founded in 1929 as a botanical institute of Sun Yat-sen University and run by the Chinese Academy of Sciences since 1954, the garden was designated the South China National Botanical Garden in 2022. Its Guangzhou section, open to the public since 1959, has dozens of themed collections such as the magnolia, palm and ginger gardens, a cluster of display glasshouses by a lake, and the Longdong Qilin lakeside landscape, chosen as one of the city's 'Eight Sights' in 1986.
