About Mingyue Gorge

A narrow gorge of the Jialing River near Chaotian where six generations of routes squeeze through side by side: an ancient plank road, the Jinniu post road, a boat-haulers' towpath, the river itself, the Sichuan–Shaanxi highway and the Baoji–Chengdu railway. About 2 km of plank walkway has been rebuilt on the original beam holes cut into the cliff, among the best preserved in China, so visitors can walk the cliff face above the river. The gorge forms part of the Jianmen Shu Road heritage site.
