About Basum Tso
Basum Tso (Draksum Tso in Tibetan) is a long glacier-dammed lake in a deep valley of the upper Ba River in Gongbo'gyamda County, ringed by snow peaks and forest, and was Tibet's first natural-landscape 5A scenic area. On Tashi island near the south-western shore stands Tsozong Monastery, a Nyingma temple whose present buildings date largely from a 14th-century rebuilding. Boat trips run on the lake, and the lakeside village of Jieba is a traditional Kongpo farming village.
How to get to Basum Tso
About 120 km by road from Bayi (Nyingchi city), turning north off the G318 near Bahe; carry your passport for road checkpoints.
