About Beri Monastery
Beri Monastery stands on a hillside above the north bank of the Yalong River about 10 km west of Ganzi town, and its present buildings date from the Qing dynasty. In 1936 its lama, the 5th Gedar Rinpoche, assisted the Red Army as it passed through Ganzi on the Long March, and the national heritage listing commemorates the monastery's role from then until his death in 1950.
