About Xiaogang Village
The village in Xiaoxihe town, Fengyang, where on the night of 24 November 1978 eighteen farmers secretly signed a pledge to divide the collective fields into household plots, a step later held up as the start of China's rural reforms. The 1979 grain harvest equalled the village's total for 1966–1970; the site of the pledge is protected as national heritage, and the Da Baogan (household contract) Memorial Museum tells the story. In 2024 UN Tourism named Xiaogang one of its Best Tourism Villages.
