About Huating Seawall (Fengxian Section)

A stone sea wall begun in 1726 under the Yongzheng emperor to protect old Huating county from the tides of Hangzhou Bay, built with interlocking 'fish-scale' courses of dressed stone and later strengthened and encased in earth. About 4.5 km of it was uncovered in 1996 when Fengzhe Road, which runs on top of it, was lowered, and the exposed blocks, some carved with builders' names and blessings, can be seen along the roadside in Zhelin town.

How to get to Huating Seawall (Fengxian Section)

Along Fengzhe Road in Zhelin town, Fengxian District, about 1.5 hours by road from central Shanghai.
