About Tiangong Temple Pagoda

A thirteen-tier octagonal pagoda of brick and stone from the Liao dynasty, about 24 m high on a 5 m platform, completed in 1062 and the only part left of the former Tiangong Temple. Dragon-carved corner columns, lotus-petal bands and eaves hung with bells decorate the body. The 1976 earthquake shook off the finial and cracked the tower, and repairs in 1986–89 uncovered two chambers holding statues and scriptures.
