About Dingzhou Confucian Temple
One of the best-preserved Confucian temples in Hebei, founded in the Dazhong era of the Tang dynasty (mid-9th century) on the site of a Buddhist temple and enlarged under the Song, Ming and Qing. Three adjoining courtyards hold the Lingxing Gate, the Dacheng Hall for Confucius and his disciples, a lecture hall and a Wenchang pavilion, with a shrine to local filial and chaste figures in a courtyard to the south. It is a quiet site with old steles, and two old locust trees in the grounds are traditionally said to have been planted by Su Dongpo, who served as governor of Dingzhou.
