About Huazhou Academy

An academy founded in the 1040s by the statesman Fan Zhongyan while he was governor of Dengzhou, where he wrote his famous essay 'On Yueyang Tower'. The present buildings, in Qing style, form five courtyards with a semicircular pool and bridge and a shrine to Fan, beside the Baihuazhou garden of pools and rockeries and a stretch of Ming earthen city wall.
