About Jingshan Park

The former imperial garden directly north of the Forbidden City, centred on an artificial hill piled up in the early Ming from earth dug out for the palace moat and canals. Five pavilions stand on its five peaks, and the central Wanchun Pavilion on the city's north–south axis gives the classic view over the palace roofs; the last Ming emperor, Chongzhen, hanged himself on the hill's eastern slope in 1644. Opened to the public in 1928, the park is part of the Beijing Central Axis World Heritage site inscribed in 2024.
