About Xiaonanhai Grottoes
Three small Buddhist caves cut into the limestone cliff of Guigai Hill above the Xiaonanhai spring in the Northern Qi Tianbao era (550s). The middle cave, sponsored by the eminent monk Sengchou, is the richest, with carved Buddhas and long engraved sutra texts; the east cave was moved beside it in 1999, and the group is close in style to the Xiangtangshan caves in Hebei.
