About Kunyu
Kunyu, the city of the 14th Division of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps (Bingtuan), is made up of farms scattered through Hotan Prefecture between the Kunlun Mountains and the Taklamakan. Laobing ('veterans') Town of the 47th Regiment was settled by soldiers who crossed the desert to Hotan in December 1949 and stayed to farm, and a memorial hall there tells their story. On the Pishan farm stands the Tuerdi Aji Manor, a house of 1915 listed as national heritage.
