About Weihai

Weihai holds the eastern end of the Shandong Peninsula, where Chengshantou Cape marks the easternmost tip, and is the mainland Chinese city closest to South Korea. Liugong Island, in its bay, was a base of the Beiyang Fleet, called the birthplace of China's first modern navy, and the setting of its defeat in the First Sino-Japanese War of 1894 to 1895. Britain leased Weihaiwei from 1898 to 1930, and the British Buildings of Weihaiwei survive.
