About Huangnan
Huangnan, 'south of the Yellow River', is centred on Tongren, called Rebgong in Tibetan, where Rongwo Monastery rises over a valley of Tibetan and Tu villages whose painters and sculptors practise the Regong arts, UNESCO-listed in 2009. Close by, the Bao'an Fort Villages hold Ming and Qing garrison settlements, and at Wutun the villagers speak a mixed language of their own. Farther south lie Heri Temple's mani stone wall and the grasslands of Henan, Qinghai's only Mongol autonomous county.
