The Lotus City, Shaoshan and Qi Baishi's farmhouse

About Xiangtan
Xiangtan is called the Lotus City for the lotus seeds grown on its farms, and it was once one of the great inland trading towns on the Xiang River, where the Beiwusheng (Five Northern Provinces) Guild Hall still stands. Most visitors come for Shaoshan, the village where Mao Zedong was born in 1893. Quieter stops are the farmhouse home of the painter Qi Baishi, known for his ink shrimps, and the Dongshan Academy at Xiangxiang.
