About Tianmen
Tianmen, a county-level city on the Jianghan Plain west of Wuhan, takes its name from the Tianmen Mountains to its north-west. It is the hometown of Lu Yu, the Tang-dynasty author of The Classic of Tea, honoured in a memorial garden in the old town. At Shijiahe to the north-west, a site museum opened in 2026 shows jade figures and other finds from the largest prehistoric walled settlement known on the middle Yangtze, which gave its name to a late Neolithic culture.
