About Wanning
Wanning, a county-level city governed directly by the province, is a surfing coast in south-east Hainan: Riyue Bay and Shimei Bay have over 200 surfable days a year, and international contests have been held here since 2010. At Xinglong, overseas Chinese returning from South-East Asia opened the People's Republic's first coffee factory in 1952, and beans are still roasted in iron woks. The Xinglong Tropical Botanical Garden, founded in 1957, grows coffee, pepper, vanilla and cocoa among 3,200 species.
