About Guigang

Guigang, nicknamed the 'Lotus City' for the lotus grown around the town, is a busy river port on a direct waterway to the Pearl River Delta. Downstream at Guiping, where the Yu and Qian rivers meet to form the Xun, temples and tea gardens climb the wooded Guiping Xishan (West Hill), and at nearby Jintian, Hong Xiuquan's followers began the Taiping Rebellion in January 1851. In the city, Nanshan Temple has stood in a cave in a craggy karst hill since 989.
