About Zunyi Conference Site

The former residence of a Guizhou army commander, a two-storey house of the early 1930s, where the Chinese Communist Party's Politburo held an enlarged meeting on 15–17 January 1935 during the Long March. The meeting reviewed the failure of the fifth encirclement campaign and is regarded in party history as the point at which Mao Zedong's leadership was established. It forms the core of the Zunyi Conference Memorial Museum, whose protected buildings also include the nearby house where Mao Zedong, Zhang Wentian and Wang Jiaxiang stayed and the former Red Army political department at the Yangliu Street Catholic church.
