About German and Japanese Buildings of the Zibo Mining Group
A group of German- and Japanese-style stone and brick buildings in Hongshan, Zichuan, built from 1904, when German interests opened the Zichuan coal mine, and extended after Japan took over the mine in 1914. A Zichuan government account counts about 18 buildings, among them offices, residences, a watchtower, a bell tower and a reinforced-concrete Shinto shrine of 1917. They are listed as a national modern-historical site and are of interest mainly for the industrial history of Shandong's coal mining.
How to get to German and Japanese Buildings of the Zibo Mining Group
In the Hongshan area of Zichuan District, about 3 km east-south-east of Zichuan town centre and about 21 km south-south-west of central Zibo; the buildings stand inside the mining group's working office compound and are not a museum, so check access before going. The Zibo Coal Mine Museum about 1 km to the north gives context.
