About Zhijiang Surrender Memorial

The site in Qiliqiao village outside Zhijiang town where, on 21 August 1945, a Japanese delegation led by Major General Takeo Imai received the Chinese terms for the surrender of Japan's forces in China, the first step towards the formal surrender ceremony in Nanjing that September. It keeps the 1938 buildings of the Chinese Army headquarters and He Yingqin's office, a memorial museum opened in 1995, and the stone surrender memorial arch first built in 1946–47, destroyed in 1966 and rebuilt from old photographs in 2010.
