About Zhaobao Mountain

A hill guarding the mouth of the Yong River, fortified from the Ming to the 1940s against Japanese pirates and British, French and Japanese forces, and the core of the Zhenhaikou coastal defence monuments. Paths lead to the Ming Weiyuan fort on the summit (1560), the Moon fort of 1883, old steles and the round Anyuan battery of 1887, with the Aozhu Pagoda on the hill and a coastal defence museum, opened in 1997, at its foot. Further monuments of the same group, including Qing batteries and a lookout on Jinji Hill, lie across the river in Beilun.
