About Erqi Memorial Tower

A 63 m twin-towered memorial in Erqi Square in central Zhengzhou, built in 1971 in a Chinese pavilion style at the spot where two Zhengzhou leaders of the Beijing–Hankou railway workers' strike of 7 February 1923 were killed. Visitors can enter the tower, whose floors hold exhibitions, and a clock near the top plays 'The East Is Red' on the hour. The national listing also covers the Erqi Memorial Hall of 1951–53 on Qiantang Road, about 700 m to the south, built on the site of the theatre where the railway workers' union was founded and now holding an exhibition on the strike.
