About Gedeng Mountain Stele

A stone stele with an inscription composed by the Qianlong Emperor to mark the Qing army's victory over the Dzungar ruler Dawachi at Gedeng Mountain in 1755, set up on the hilltop in the early 1760s. About 3 m tall, it bears the text in Chinese and Manchu on one face and Mongolian and Tibetan on the other, and stands in a pavilion reached by a stone path. It is the only one of the four steles on the Dzungar campaigns that still stands where it was first erected.
