About Zhang Fei Temple

A temple to Zhang Fei, the Three Kingdoms general whose head, by tradition, was buried here; founded in the late Shu Han period, it stood for centuries on the south bank of the Yangtze opposite the old Yunyang town. Ahead of the Three Gorges reservoir it was dismantled and rebuilt, largely from its original materials, in a similar setting on the south bank facing the new county town, and reopened in July 2003. Its halls and pavilions honour Zhang Fei and the poet Du Fu, who stayed here for two years.
