About Nuodeng Village

A Bai village built up a steep hillside above an old salt well near Yunlong, said to have kept its name since the Nanzhao period and long made prosperous by salt. More than a hundred courtyard houses climb the slope among Ming and Qing temples, including a Confucian temple, a martial temple and the three-storey Yuhuang Pavilion, first built in the Ming, whose ceiling is painted with the 28 lunar mansions. Brine still rises from the old well, and some villagers still make salt by traditional methods.

How to get to Nuodeng Village

A few kilometres from Yunlong town, which is about 3 hours by road west of Dali.
