About Mount Mangdang

A cluster of low hills in northern Yongcheng, rising to 156.8 m, where Liu Bang, the future founder of the Han dynasty, began his revolt against the Qin by slaying a white serpent, and where the Western Han kings of Liang cut their tombs deep into the rock. Visitors can enter the vast rock-cut tombs of King Xiao of Liang and his queen, whose tomb runs about 210 m, and see Chen Sheng's grave, the memorial to Liu Bang's uprising, the cliff where Confucius is said to have sheltered from rain and the foundations of a Han ritual hall on the main peak. Finds such as a jade burial suit and the 'Four Deities' mural are in the Shangqiu Museum and the Henan Museum.
