About Western Qing Tombs

The Western Qing Tombs are one of the Qing dynasty's imperial burial grounds, set among wooded hills in Yi County, with the tombs of four emperors (Yongzheng, Jiaqing, Daoguang and Guangxu) and of their empresses, concubines and princes. Tailing, the Yongzheng Emperor's tomb, is the earliest and largest, reached along a long stone spirit way with memorial archways, stone bridges and rows of stone statues, while the underground burial chamber of Chongling, the Guangxu Emperor's tomb, was opened to visitors in 1980. The complex is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site 'Imperial Tombs of the Ming and Qing Dynasties', inscribed in 2000.
