About Mount Jigong
A forested ridge of the Dabie Mountains on the Henan–Hubei border, named after the rooster-shaped crag of Baoxiao Peak and long a summer retreat thanks to its cool climate. From 1898 to 1936 foreign missionaries and diplomats, along with Chinese military figures and businessmen, built hundreds of villas in various styles here, and the surviving early-20th-century buildings are protected as a national heritage site. Paths link the villa quarter with viewpoints and wooded valleys in what is also a national nature reserve.
