About Lingqu Canal

A canal dug on the First Emperor's orders between 219 and 214 BC to move troops and supplies south, linking the Xiang River, which flows to the Yangtze, with the Li River and the Pearl River system across a low watershed. Its works survive in and around Xing'an town: the Huazui, a ploughshare-shaped stone spur that splits the Xiang, the angled spillway dams called the Big and Small Tianping, the Qin embankment and old lock gates along the 36.4 km of the South and North channels. It was named a World Heritage Irrigation Structure in 2018.

How to get to Lingqu Canal
