About Khunjerab Pass National Gate
The national gate building at the Khunjerab Pass, where the Karakoram Highway (G314) reaches the border with Pakistan at about 4,700 m, on the only land crossing between the two countries. Rated in 2021 as a red-tourism scenic area, it centres on the gate, the boundary marker and a monument to the opening of the pass in the 1980s. The border port has been open all year round since late 2024, but the altitude makes even a short visit hard work.
How to get to Khunjerab Pass National Gate
About 130 km by road south of Tashkurgan town at the end of highway G314, usually visited as a day trip by hired car from Tashkurgan. It lies in a border area, so a border-area permit (边境通行证) is needed as well as a passport; check the current rules before travelling.
