About Shousheng Temple Pagoda, Gaoxian

A hexagonal seven-storey brick pagoda, 28.5 m tall, first built in the Song and rebuilt in 1518, which leans visibly to the north-east, probably because of soft ground on that side. Set into the south wall of each storey are stone Buddha images, 211 in all, with 14 inscriptions, which record that it was built only in spring and autumn; its bricks are bonded with sticky-rice mortar. It is a quick but unusual stop in the countryside of northern Zhoukou.
