About Zhang Pu Residence

A late-Ming house on Ximen Street in Taicang's old town, built in the Tianqi and Chongzhen reigns (1621–1644) by Zhang Fuzhi, uncle of the writer Zhang Pu (1602–1641), who led the Restoration Society (Fushe), an influential late-Ming association of scholars. Three courtyards of five-bay, two-storey halls are joined by upper-floor galleries into a typical Jiangnan 'running-horse' house, and the society's members met here.
