About Dai Temple

The principal temple of the god of Mount Tai, in the old town of Tai'an at the southern foot of the mountain, where emperors held sacrifices to the mountain. The compound of about 100,000 square metres is centred on the Song-dynasty Tianzhang Hall (enlarged by imperial order in 1009), which holds a Daoist wall painting 62 m long, and the grounds also hold more than 200 stone tablets, old cypress and locust trees and the surviving fragments of the Qin-dynasty Mount Tai stele. The Tai'an Museum is housed in the temple, and many visitors come here before or after climbing the mountain.
