About Tiger Hill & Yunyan Temple Pagoda

A small hill on the north-west edge of Suzhou where King Helü of Wu is said to have been buried in the 5th century BC, and a celebrated beauty spot for well over a thousand years. Its summit is crowned by the Yunyan Temple Pagoda, a seven-storey octagonal brick pagoda completed in 961 that leans visibly, while below it lie the Sword Pond and the broad Thousand-Person Rock, both tied to legends of the king's tomb. Buddhist scriptures in a stone casket were found inside the pagoda during repairs in 1957.
