About Sheshan Hills

Two low wooded hills, East and West Sheshan, rise from the Songjiang plain and form the core of a national forest park. West Sheshan is crowned by the Basilica of Our Lady of Sheshan, a Catholic pilgrimage church reached by a path lined with the Stations of the Cross and made a minor basilica in 1942. Beside it stands the Sheshan Observatory, built by French Jesuits in 1899–1901 and since 2004 the Shanghai Astronomical Museum, which reopened in 2023 after two years of restoration with its original 40 cm twin refractor on show.

How to get to Sheshan Hills

In Songjiang District, about an hour from People's Square on Metro Line 9 to Sheshan station, then a short taxi or bus ride to West Sheshan.
