About Mayu Island

A small island at the mouth of Shantou harbour, known in the treaty-port era as Double Island, where the American and British consulates and the port's first foreign-run customs house opened in 1860 before moving across the harbour during the 1860s. Visitors come for its two Mazu (Tianhou) temples, one founded in the Yuan dynasty, a Qing Dragon King temple and a small swimming beach beneath the Shantou Bay Bridge.

How to get to Mayu Island
