About Qingtongxia Yellow River Grand Canyon and 108 Stupas

A scenic area of about 126 km² around the Qingtongxia gorge, officially described as the last gorge on the upper Yellow River, taking in the Qingtongxia dam (begun in 1958), a water-conservancy museum and the Dayu culture park at the heart of the Ningxia Yellow River irrigation system, a World Heritage Irrigation Structure. Its best-known sight is the One Hundred and Eight Stupas, Tibetan-style brick stupas in twelve rows that form a triangle on the hillside above the west bank. First built in the Western Xia period, they have been rebuilt several times and no longer keep their original form.
