About Shanghai Grand View Garden
A large garden of traditional-style halls and courtyards on the west shore of Dianshan Lake, built from 1979 and opened in 1988 to recreate the Grand View Garden described in the Qing novel Dream of the Red Chamber. Its courtyards are named after the characters' residences in the novel, such as Baoyu's Yihong Court and Daiyu's Xiaoxiang Lodge, and the grounds add a large plum grove and a modern seven-storey pagoda. It is a modern re-creation rather than a historic garden and suits readers of the novel.
